Recently I completed The Pancake Book Tag created by the wonderful, the lovely, the one and the only, Becky @ Blogs of a Bookaholic and that got me thinking (a dangerous thing, really…), is there a WAFFLE book tag? (Because obviously, if there’s one for pancakes, there HAS to be one for waffles. I’m all about the equality, folks.)
So I channeled my inner Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock Homles and started searching the interwebs for clues and found…NOTHING. ZILCH. NADA. NO WAFFLE BOOK TAG. WHAT IS THIS OUTRAGE?!!??!? Clearly, this wrong needed to be righted; this injustice needed to be lobbied in Congress. But before you grab your picket signs, please know that I have already fixed this disastrous, world-ending problem. Yes, that’s right – I have created…*pause for dramatic effect (because clearly you have no idea what I’m about to say here, right?)* THE WAFFLE BOOK TAG!!!!
(Also, a huge shout out to Becky for giving me this wonderful idea!)
The Rules
- Link back to the original creator, Kat @ Novels & Waffles (That’s me, btw)
- Feel free to use any of the waffle graphics in this post, just make sure to credit me (pretty pretty please with lots of maple syrup on top)
- Tag as many people as you want (or don’t want) to. No pressure here, folks :)
Let’s Make Some Waffles
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
Okay, I’ve talked about how much I adore Peter Pan before, but let’s just review, shall we? It’s got bloodthirsty pirates, jealous fae, kidnapped princesses, pixie-induced aerobatics, and a magical found family with some serious #squadgoals. As somebody who sometimes constantly struggles with adulting, the idea of never growing up, of never having to worry about adulty things like paying the water bill or filing my taxes, sounds utterly delightful.
P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
If you’re anything like me, then you don’t handle stress well. In fact, if you’re even more like me, then you probably don’t handle stress AT ALL. Not even a little bit. And if you are my identical twin/soul sista/evil clone, then even the THOUGHT of getting stressed turns you into a dead cockroach; you lose control of all logical thought, collapse onto your back, and stick all of your appendages into the air.
That being said, every time I think about P.S. I Still Love You, I turn into a freaking beam of light; my skin is clear, my grades are high, my anxiety is gone, and my crops are growing. That’s how wonderfully chill this book is.
📖 RELATED POST: MY STICKY NOTE MINI REVIEW OF P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU
Do I really need anything else besides this GIF? Probably not. There’s so much nostalgia going on here, it’s insane. Also, if the The Mysterious Ticking Noise was, like, YOUR JAM as a kid, then let’s be best friends.
Kimi Nakamura from I Love You So Mochi
Okay, KIMI IS TOO ADORABLE FOR THIS WORLD. She is so pure, so sweet, and I feel so SEEN whenever she discusses how perfectionism affects her. Her desire for perfection initially keeps her from doing things – makes her too afraid to try – and reading about that made me realize, “Wow, I totally do that too.” But just like Kimi, I can overcome the negative voice in my head and find my superheroine self, AKA Ultimate Kat. ALSO, Kimi made her best friend a dress out CANDY WRAPPERS. ‘nough said.

Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa
The ending of Sweet Bean Paste was so bittersweet. It broke my heart, but also somehow managed to glue it back together again. In Japanese, there’s a word called, 「物の哀れ」(mono no aware) which describes this sort of feeling perfectly. It doesn’t translate into English very well, but literally it means something like, “The pathos of things.” It can be described as an appreciation of the fleeting nature of beauty, or that feeling you get when you contemplate the wistfulness of life. That’s how I felt after reading this book.
The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo
I am a self-proclaimed YA Fantasy book junkie. If you plop me into a library, nine times out of ten I’m going to come out with a pile full of nothing but fantasy novels. It’s what I love, it’s what I eat, it’s what I breathe (don’t ask how I shove those thick tomes through my nostrils and down my lungs; it’s a delicate process). That being said, when my husband catches me reading a book outside of that genre, he gasps and a lot of doge meme reenactment ensues.
The Way You Make Me Feel was one of those holographic-Charizard-rare times, and let me tell you, I had a blast reading it. There was something so real and down-to-earth about the relationships in this book and by the end, I was wishing that the KoBra was real ‘cause I WOULD EAT THE HECK OUT OF THAT THING.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
The Lunar Chronicles is probably my favorite series, right after Harry Potter, and if I’m comparing anything to Harry Potter, then you know it must be some good stuff. Not only is the premise beyond fascinating (it’s a retelling of all your favorite fairy tales set in … wait for it … SPACE. And let’s face it, everything is better in space), but it also has the most lovable cast of characters that you’ll ever meet. We’ve got an android who loves fashion, a cyborg who’s actually a princess, a butt-kicking grandmother who knows her way around a shotgun, a cinnamon roll who can hack her way into any computer, and crazy Moon Queen set on Earth-wide destruction. If that doesn’t appeal to you, then maybe you should reevaluate your tastebuds (or not…that’s okay too. Everybody likes different things 😊).

My iPad
Okay, so admittedly, I don’t actually own a lot of bookish merch (one of the drawbacks of living overseas; nothing ships internationally. And if it does, it costs about the same as it would to finance my kid through Harvard). But one thing I do have is my iPad. While that might not necessarily sound like a “bookish accessory,” let me reassure you that it totally is. Since I live in a non-English speaking country, it’s not like I can just waltz right over to my local library and check out all the latest and greatest releases. ENTER EBOOKS. Using my handy, dandy iPad, along with the Kindle app, I can read all the English books I want, even while living in Japan.

AND ANYBODY ELSE WHO LOVES WAFFLES!
What did you think of my first attempt at creating a book tag?
What would some of your answers for this tag be?
Are you super hungry for waffles now? I know I am!
WAFFLES ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST AND EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE THEM TO THE END OF TIME AND BACK! We are all but waffles blogs seriously. That picture in the bath? Me, every moment of my life. Eggo waffles are acquired taste and I must admit to never before in my life tasting them. Thank you for tagging me, this tag shall do amazing with my blog aesthetic.
YES YES PETER PAN IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS!! It’s just the perfect amount of wistful crocodiles and practical never growing up tips and tricks. Now if we just get fairy dust is should be fairly easy right?
I AM SO GLAD SOMEBODY ELSE SHARES MY LOVE OF WAFFLES!!! And yes yes yes I completely agree about that waffle bath gif. I wish waffle baths were an actual thing because dang, that would be true heaven. AND OH MY GOSH ANOTHER PETER PAN LOVER! WOOOOT. 💛💛💛
KAT, THIS IS GENIUS. I love this so much- the waffle love, the gifs, the prompts, the graphics, the books you mentioned, hi, I’m obsessed!!💛🙈
Also, why yes, The Mysterious Ticking Noise (and Harry Potter in 99 Seconds) was my jam back in the day. And yes, it still gets stuck in my head for no reason at random times throughout my life, but honestly, I’m okay with that.
I’m about to read I Love You So Mochi so it gets me even more excited to see you enjoyed it! It sounds like I’ll be able to relate to Kimi, so that’s good. Also, aww, all the Lara Jean books are so wholesome and comforting. I love them so so much.
This is an awesome tag!! Thanks for creating it. :)
Olivia!!!!! 💛You are so sweet! I’m glad that you liked this post so much – I can honestly say that I had so much fun creating it, it it makes me happy to know that you had fun reading it!
AND OH YESH ANOTHER PERSON WHO STILL REMEMBERS THE MYSTERIOUS TICKING NOISEEEE. I totally agree with you about that son– it still gets stuck in my head sometimes too haha. IT’S SO CATCHY.

I love all the questions you came up with! They’re so creative and clever! Plus, I love a bit of wordplay, so that maple syrup question made me so happy!
I think my favorite answer in this whole tag has got to be the Harry Potter one, just for that gif alone. Forget the actual book series, just seeing the Puppet Pals gave me MAJOR nostalgia!
Malka, thank you sooooo much! 💛I also LIVE for some good wordplay, so I’m glad to hear that we have that in common :) And YESH ANOTHER PERSON WHO REMEMBERS HARRY POTTER PUPPET PALLLS. Woot!

I love this tag, Kat! As soon as I saw that Harry Potter gif, the song was stuck in my head :) Honestly, that’s the ideal state of being for any Potterhead. This has also made me extremely hungry for waffles. I have this great Belgian waffle recipe and now I need to make it. Also, I applaud your use of Shrek (Donkey really is the best character, isn’t he?)
Laura @BlueEyeBooks
Hahaha that song has to be one of the most catchy songs EVER created, amirite? And oooohhhhh a Belgian waffle recipe? That sounds absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for the lovely comment and kind words, Laura!! 💛

AHH, I’M SO HAPPY YOU DID THIS! I was legit joking to some people after the pancake tag that I should make a waffle one to even it up (yet had no intention of actually doing so) and WHO BETTER TO TAKE ON THIS FEAT OF STODGE AND SUGAR THAN THE WAFFLE QUEEN HERSELF *fist pump*. :D I’m so, so glad that my tag inspired you and your tag looks so awesome! I will definitely try and do it when I’m out of my blogging slump for sure! Thank you so much for the shoutout as well. :)
Also can I just say that Donkey is the first thing that pops into my mind when talking about waffles to I appreciate your giffage, LOL.
