Reading slumps are the archenemies of bookworms everywhere. They’re the Joker to our Batman, the Darth Vader to our Luke Skywalker, the calorie count to our desired waffle intake. Just when you’re feeling like 200 books is a totally attainable Goodreads goal, BAM! A wild reading slump appears out of nowhere like the embodiment of pure evil that it is. But don’t worry your pretty heads (I haven’t actually seen any of your heads, but I just know they must be pretty) and get ready to vanquish this dreaded foe. Because today I’m sharing 5 fast-paced YA books that’ll help you dropkick your slump and kickstart your reading.
5 Books to Get You Out of a Reading Slump
Geekerella by Ashley Poston
This book and Tigger (yes, that bouncy orange dude from Winnie-the-Pooh), have something in common; they’re both fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! They’re also both extremely happy, quirky, and will fly by more quickly than you would’ve thought possible.
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
I’ve got one word for you: pirates! Actually, make that three words: “Butt-kicking lady pirates!” If just reading that doesn’t automatically make your villainous reading slump quake in its boots (okay, so admittedly reading slumps don’t wear boots…but if they did, they would be those black combat ones with the little spikes), then I don’t know what will. (P.S. – Pretty much anything written by Tricia Levenseller is kryptonite for reading ruts.)

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
This bone-chilling, sleep-stealing, expectation-busting whodunnit will twist your mind like a giant Rubik’s Cube and leave you feeling all turned around. Your slump won’t stand a chance against Pip and her murder-mystery-solving skills.
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
If reading slumps had fatal flaws, then The Lightning Thief would definitely be it. This book is a nonstop Greek-inspired adventure full of classic preteen sass and lighthearted fun (though Percy might not agree with my usage of the word “fun” here). It’ll recharge your reading mojo like a mega-zap from Zeus’ Master Bolt, or your money back gauranteed.
