Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood a bookworm. If you’re reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this tab right now. (Actually, please don’t! My stats would take a a devastating nosedive.) Instead, grab a large plate of blue waffles (curtesy of Sally Jackson), your trusty pen-that’s-actually-a-sword, and check out these 20 awesome book recommendations based on your Camp Half-Blood cabin. Because who wouldn’t want to base their next read on their Percy Jackson godly parentage? (I know I would.)

Book Recommendations for Every Camp Half-Blood Camper

Perfect for Percy Jackson Fans Everywhere
camp half-blood cabin one book recommendation image

Cabin One (Zeus): Aurora Rising

Zeus, the god of thunder. He’s loud, he’s explosive, and he’s over-the-top. So naturally, any book recommendation for his kids should be equally electric, and Aurora Rising definitely fits that bill. Full of action-packed adventure, this dynamic Space Opera is an explosion of Marvel-esque fun. Plus, Zeus is also the god of the sky and technically space is in the sky, righhhhht? (Is this too much of a stretch? It is, isn’t it? *insert dejected sigh here*)

camp half-blood cabin two book recommendation image

Cabin Two (Hera): Serpent & Dove

Hera is the goddess of marriage and “doesn’t run around having affairs with mortals. That is her husband’s job.” Because of that, I obviously had to pick a book with the Arranged Marriage Trope for this one. It was a given.

camp half-blood cabin three book recommendation image

Cabin Three (Poseidon): Daughter of the Pirate King

Poseidon is the god of the sea, and whenever I think of the sea, I don’t think of pleasant summer days at the beach, or even the unpleasant sunburns that’ll inevitably come after (curse you, fair ginger skin of mine! *shakes fist*) No. Instead, I think of pirates, because that’s what reading one too many YA fantasy novels has done to me.

camp half-blood cabin four book recommendation image

Cabin Four (Demeter): This Time Will Be Different

Demeter is the goddess of agriculture, so her children tend to have real green thumbs. In This Time Will Be Different, the protagonist has a knack for arranging the perfect bouquet and loves to work at her family’s flower shop. (My seasonal allergies are starting to act up just thinking about all that pollen. I’m so romantic, I know.)

camp half-blood cabin five book recommendation image

Cabin Five (Ares): The Poppy War

Ares = the god of WAR. This book = The Poppy WAR. Life is filled with perfect little symmetries like this. Also, the children of Ares have a reputation for being amazing warriors, and Rin is definitely one butt-kicking, war-finishing, expectation-destroying fighter. If the combat boot fits…

camp half-blood cabin six book recommendation image

Cabin Six (Athena): Descendant of the Crane

Court intrigue + political machinations + strategic manipulations = the perfect book for children of the wisdom goddess. Plus, here’s this little quote from Descendant of the Crane that sounds SO MUCH like something Athena would say, I had to mention it: “Your opponent isn’t a log to be hacked at, but a painting to be finished.”

📖 RELATED POST: WHAT DID I THINK ABOUT DESCENDANT OF THE CRANE?

camp half-blood cabin seven book recommendation image

Cabin Seven (Apollo): The Poet X

Although Apollo is the god of poetry, his haikus are so terrible that I’m physically pained whenever I read them (whether from the sheer awfulness, or from the effort of holding back laughter, I’m not sure). But unlike Apollo’s agony-inducing poetry, the prose in The Poet X is utterly awe-inspiring, something that any occupant of Cabin Seven is sure to appreciate.

camp half-blood cabin eight book recommendation image

Cabin Eight (Artemis): The Life and Medieval Times of Kit Sweetly

Artemis got so fed up with the patriarchy that she swore off man-handling for the rest of eternity and formed her own immortal girl gang. Talk about #goals. If anybody would support Kit in her fight to slay sexism and become a knight at her medieval-themed part-time job, it would be Artemis.

Artemis @ the world
camp half-blood cabin nine book recommendation image

Cabin Nine (Hephaestus): Forged in Fire and Stars

Hephaestus is the god of forges and fire, and considering this book has both of those words in the title, I think I really nailed this recommendation on the head. (HAHA it’s punny because like…Hephaestus is a blacksmith…and like…hammers…*in a smaller voice* okay I’ll show myself out.)

camp half-blood cabin ten book recommendation image

Cabin Ten (Aphrodite): To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Aphrodite is the goddess of love, the ultimate matchmaker (think Cher from the movie Clueless, but actually good at what she does), and a professional shipper (she was a Percabeth fan before it was cool). As such, I can totally imagine her sitting in a corner, cackling like a crazy lady (don’t tell her I called her that though, she might smite me) over the fact that Lara Jean’s love letters “mysteriously” find their way into the mail.

📖 RELATED POST: TO ALL THE BOOKS I’VE READ BEFORE

camp half-blood cabin eleven book recommendation image

Cabin Eleven (Hermes): The Gilded Wolves

This cabin is the “catchall” place for any campers who aren’t claimed by their godly parents. As the god of travelers, Hermes welcomes anyone to be his guest (*insert that Disney song from Beauty and the Beast here*). He’s also the god of thieves, so keep your wallet close when you’re around any of his children. The Gilded Wolves is the perfect read for any of his children because it’s all about found families and impossible heists.

camp half-blood cabin twelve book recommendation image

Cabin Twelve (Dionysus): When Dimple Met Rishi

Okay, so this book has a drink on the cover…that’s a great reason to pair it with the god of wine, right? (*starts to sweat profusely because she knows that it’s really not…plus, it’s still hot here in Japan*)

📖 RELATED POST: WHAT DID I THINK ABOUT WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI?

camp half-blood cabin thirteen book recommendation image

Cabin Thirteen (Hades): The Bone Witch

Some people very purposefully raise the dead using cheeseburgers (cough cough NICO cough cough). And others very accidentally raise their dead brothers from the grave (cough cough TEA cough cough). But seriously, Tea is the protagonist in The Bone Witch and she’s a freakin’ necromancer. If she’s not a daughter of Hades, then I’ll eat my shoe (which would be a real shame ’cause I bought these shoes on sale and they’re really cute. But I digress.)

📖 RELATED POST: READ MY THOUGHTS ON THE BONE WITCH

camp half-blood cabin fourteen book recommendation image

Cabin Fourteen (Iris): Somewhere Only We Know

Ignore me being completely unoriginal by choosing a book with a pretty rainbow font on the cover as the book for children of the rainbow goddess. I have approximately two braincells, and neither one of them has any creativity.

camp half-blood cabin fifteen book recommendation image

Cabin Fifteen (Hypnos): Renegades

As Nico di Angelo once said, “With great power…comes the great need to take a nap,” (wow, that’s a whole mood). In Renegades, one of the main characters has the ability to put people to sleep by touching them, and if that doesn’t scream “CHILD OF HYPNOS” in bright, flashing neon lights, then I don’t know what will.

camp half-blood cabin sixteen book recommendation image

Cabin Sixteen (Nemesis): Scavenge the Stars

Amaya wants one thing: revenge against the man who ruined her family and stole the life she once had. Nemesis is the goddess of retribution and vengeance. Voila! It’s a perfect match (just like waffles and syrup).

camp half-blood cabin seventeen book recommendation image

Cabin Seventeen (Nike): Blazewrath Games

The children of Nike (AKA: the goddess of victory) live for contests, so I’m 1000% positive that they would love competing in the Blazewwrath World Cup, a sports tournament where dragons (EEP, DRAGONS! I SAID DRAGONS!) and their riders fight for fame and glory.

camp half-blood cabin eighteen book recommendation image

Cabin Eighteen (Hebe): Wench

Hebe is the cupbearer to the gods. Because of this, her children make some of the greatest chefs and hotel managers. In Wench, Tanya isn’t a hotel manager, but she is (you guessed it) a tavern wench and she has been ever since she was able to see over the bar. She broke up her first fight at 11. By the time she was a teenager she knew everything there was to know about her tavern, and she could run it with her eyes closed. Sounds like a child of Hebe to me.

camp half-blood cabin nineteen book recommendation image

Cabin Nineteen (Tyche): Lucky Caller

Tyche is the goddess of luck and fortune, and her children have the uncanny ability of winning when it seems least likely. (Gosh, I wish I had this trait because the Elite Four keeps kicking my butt in the latest Pokemon game.) And if you’re thinking, “Gee, did Kat pick this book solely because it has the word, ‘Lucky’ in it?” then you would be right. (As I mentioned before, I am a blogger of very little brain.)

camp half-blood cabin twenty book recommendation image

Cabin Twenty (Hecate): A Deadly Education

As children of the goddess of magic, members of Cabin Twenty are the only demigods who can truly cast magic. They are the original sorcerers, and must study hard to master their skills. Can you blame me for pairing them with a book that was pitched as, “a dark feminist Harry Potter” set in a magical school where failure to graduate means death? No, I don’t think you can.

AHHH Kat this post is so incredibly creative! I loved every single book recommendation – you did such a good job matching books to their respective houses (and ngl, I’m a little jealous of your talent 😂) I took the official quiz and I’m in Cabin 10 (Aphrodite) which, at first, I didn’t agree with, but I’ve come to accept it because I am a huge fan of romance & the fluffy pink aesthetic 🛍 And yes, I truly couldn’t be more exited for the Disney+ PJO adaptation – I’m just praying that they don’t mess it up this time 🥺

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 26, 2020 at 7:14 am - Reply

Julie, thank you SOOOO much for this lovely comment! And I know what you mean about not 100% agreeing with the official quiz; I got Apollo as my Godly Parent, which I’m not sure how I feel about. It definitely matches my yellow **aesthetic** though, haha. AND OH MY GOSH YES FOR THE DISNEY+ ADAPTION!!! Too bad we’re going to have to wait forever and a half to actually see it :(

  2. plantyofpages September 26, 2020 at 2:13 am - Reply

This is such a fun, creative post! I took the quiz and got Cabin 4 (Demeter) and I couldn’t agree more haha. I LOVE the recommendation for it. I haven’t heard of This Time Will Be Different before and now I’m dying to check it out! :)

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 26, 2020 at 7:16 am - Reply

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I appreciate that! And Demeter TOTALLY fits with the theme of your blog! (I’m in love with the plant pun btw). I hope you enjoy This Time Will Be Different if you end up reading it. :)

Ohmygosh I LOVE this! The concept, the graphics, the captions! I’m planning on rereading The Percy Jackson series, it’s been eons since I first read it and I really want to get back into that wildly dangerous (hilariously so) world :D

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 26, 2020 at 7:19 am - Reply

ohh my gersh, THANK YOU for such a lovely comment, Rachelle! It really means so much! I honestly spent wayyyy too much time making the graphics for each of the Camp Houses, but it was also a lot of fun so I guess it was worth it haha. And I’ve been rereading the Percy Jackson books this year and they are just as much fun as the first time I read them back in middle school! I hope you enjoy them again too :)

      • Rachelle Saint Louis September 26, 2020 at 8:13 am - Reply

They came out great! Your designs are always the best and I’ve just started getting into digital art recently so I can tell you poured your heart into this 🥰

That’s around the time I read them too! I read the first one towards the end of fifth grade and read the others in the Olympians series in middle school. I only got past the one with Athena in the title but all the year long waits for the next books made it harder for me to continue. I really want to start from the beginning and finish all the books now that the journey has come to an official end ☺️

        • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 28, 2020 at 2:21 pm - Reply

Dawww I’m so thankful that you like my designs! And it’s really cool that you’re getting into digital art! I kind of stumbled into it myself and I’ve still got so much to learn, but if you ever have any questions, I’d be more than happy to answer them if I can!

And actually…I think I never got past the Mark of Athena too! hahaha it came out while I was in college I think, and I didn’t have time for reading then. Maybe one day I’ll finally finish the Heroes of Olympus series!

          • Rachelle Saint Louis September 29, 2020 at 12:29 am

Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to take you up on that one of these days ☺️

Hopefully one day we’ll both get through the entire series 😭

  4. Margaret @ Weird Zeal September 26, 2020 at 5:54 am - Reply

These are such good recommendations!! Every “who is your godly parent” quiz I’ve ever taken puts me in either Athena or Apollo cabin, so I guess I have to read Descendent of the Crane now since I already loved The Poet X. I’m also giggling at the idea of Aphrodite paying close attention to Lara Jean’s love life, because she absolutely would 😂

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 26, 2020 at 7:22 am - Reply

Thank you so much, Margaret! It definitely took me a long time to find just the right book for each Cabin, so it means a lot to me to you think that they are good recommendations! Also same here – every quiz says I’m the daughter of some different God/Goddess, with Apollo/Athena being the most common. But I’m not sure which one is more accurate. Maybe
Apollo since he fits my yellow *aesthetic* haha

  5. Linda @ flourishreader September 26, 2020 at 6:23 pm - Reply

So, I have to make a confession here: I have not read the PJ series 🙈 but what I did to is take the quiz and it says that I am a daughter of athena, haha. Loved reading your recommendations, very creative and entertaining, Kat!

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 28, 2020 at 2:24 pm - Reply

Oh my gosh, I would totally recommend reading them if you’re into Greek mythology! They are quick reads and so much fun! Great for both younger and older readers alike. But anyways, I’m so happy to hear that you found this post to be creative and entertaining! That made my day :) :)

Eek what a fun post!! And so glad to see some content from ya, Kat! *hops* I still have no idea what my cabin is… I’m very definite on my Hogwarts house, but for some reason I’ve never been able to figure out my cabin. I love reading but am not book-smart enough to be in Athena, haha!

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles September 28, 2020 at 2:26 pm - Reply

CHARISSSS!! 💛💛💛 Thank you *SO MUCH* for such a lovely comment! And I totally understand what you mean…I’m 100% a Hufflepuff…but I’m not exactly sure which Cabin is mine. I’ve gotten both Apollo and Athena on various quizzes, but I’m still not convinced. I guess Apollo fits with my yellow //aesthetic// though, so there’s always that haha.

      • Charis @ Charis Rae September 29, 2020 at 5:36 am - Reply

hehe your aesthetic would definitely belong in the Apollo cabin! (I almost put house, haha!)

I have this properly bookmarked and favorited because AHHHH!!! I love this so much! The visuals and recs are so creative, and as a cabin 6 camper, I can’t wait to read Descendant of the Crane ♡

KAL YOU ARE TOO GOOD TO ME!!! 💛 💛💛Seriously, thank you so much! And The Daughter of the Pirate King is a quick, fun read that gives off serious Pirates of the Caribbean vibes which I enjoyed a lot.

This post was so, so creative, and I had the BEST time reading it!! My godly parent is Athena — though I’m not sure how accurate that it, haha — so I definitely have to check Descendent of the Crane (which is already on my high-priority tbr!! maybe this was the last push I needed to read it!)

Sorry for this all-over-the-place comment! Loved this post!!!

Sara, thank you so much for this lovely post! It means so much to me that you enjoyed reading it 💛 💛 💛 And Descendent of the Crane was a really great book; I hope you enjoy it when you get around to reading it! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

As a fellow Percy Jackson fan, reading this recommendation post was so lovely 💕 I just recently bought Aurora Rising and I’m excited to read it for some adventure :) I also 100% agree that The Poet X is the perfect pick for Apollo, it’s such a good book 🥰 My cabin is Athena and I actually haven’t read Descedant of the Crane, but I saw a lot of love for it back in the day!

Caro, I’m so glad that you liked this recommendation post! That makes me so happy! I hope that you enjoy Aurora Rising – it definitely is a fast-paced book that’s full of space fun. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it :) And Descendant of the Crane is an amazing book – a bit on the slower side, but full of political machinations, which are always a delight to read about.
