GooooOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOooOoooOOOOOoood MMooOOOOOOOoooorrrRRRRrrrrnnnnnNNNNNnniiiiNNGGGGGggggg!

My first thought when watching that video: “Wow, big mood.”

My second: “Man, I wish I felt that good when I woke up in the morning. Usually I just feel like somebody ran a flat roller over my tongue during the night.”

Anyways, good morning to one and all from over here in Japan. My name is Kat and I will be your guide today. This morning’s topic of discussion is…  *indiscreetly checks script*  the Versatile Blogger Award! I knew that.

This award celebrates high quality, unique, and loving content. It is meant to “honor those bloggers who bring something special to your life whether every day or only now and then.Wow that’s beautiful. The fact that not only one, BUT TWO blogs have nominated me for this award has me crying big fat ugly tears. Seriously, I don’t cry cutely. It’s not a pretty picture – I don’t like doing it. Thank you Anthony @ Keep Reading Forward and Clemi @ Clemi’s Bookish World for thinking I am even a little bit deserving of this award. You guys are amazing!

The Rules

  • If you are nominated, you’ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Thank the person who gave you the award
  • Include link to their blog
  • Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself

Okay, so I’ve discussed this before, but I’ll say it again – I’m so very wonderfully, spectacularly, amazingly NOT good at talking about myself. With that understanding, you might be able to guess at how difficult it was for me to come up with seven things to say about myself for this award. (A WHOLE SEVEN THINGS, GUYS – you might as well have asked for a gajillion. Both are very nearly impossible… like finishing a crossword puzzle.)

After a few tussles with my laptop and a nice, hearty slice of cake (cake makes everything seem more manageable, in case you’re wondering. Trade secret), I was able to wrangle seven things about myself out of the clutches my stubborn keyboard and into this post to share with the sparse few of you who might be reading this out there in the world wide interwebs. So…*takes a deep, shaky breath*…. it starts.

Number One: I was Scared of Leprechauns As a Kid

When I was younger, I watched some weird movie about a leprechaun and it gave me nightmares for weeks. I guess that’s something that hasn’t changed about me – I still can’t handle scary movies…and now that I think about it, Saint Patrick’s Day has always been one of my least favorite holidays…

Number Two: My Mom Would Tell me Bedtime Stories About Fairies

To help me sleep at night (because of said leprechaun-induced nightmares), my mom would tell six-year-old me stories about fairies, and I’m not talking about Sarah J. Maas’s dark and brooding version of fairies. I’m talking about the cutesy kind with sparkly wings and tulip petals for dresses. Her stories always helped me forget about the impending doom of a leprechaun apocalypse and fall asleep.

I do believe in fairies! I do! I do!!

Number Three: My Favorite Color is Yellow

My favorite color is yellow, but it can’t just be any shade of yellow. It has to be a mustard yellow. Not a highlighter yellow. Not a lemon yellow. Mustard. If you are surprised by this, then you should probably give my blog a hard onceover and ask yourself why you couldn’t have guessed this for yourself.

I honestly feel like yellow and orange are the outcasts of the rainbow – the lonely colors picked last when it comes to choosing teams – because everybody always says their favorite color is blue or red. But yellow is such a happy color; it needs more love, folks. Okay, I’ll stop gushing about yellow advocacy now. Gosh, I’m such a dweeb.

Number Four: I Like to Write

I’ve been writing stories for as long I can remember. I still have some of those first “novels” lying around – but they are tucked away in a manilla folder, which I locked inside a bulletproof safe, which I then threw into the depths of the Pacific Ocean so that they would never again see the light of day.

Number Five: The First Book I Ever Wrote Was a Haters-to-Lovers Story

My first real story was a contemporary, which is sorta ironic seeing as I hardly read books from that genre anymore. It was your typical boy-meets-girl story: it revolved around a girl named Izzy and her obnoxious neighbor, Ryan. If I were to write a book blurb for it now, it would probably sound something like this:

Izzy and Ryan are sworn enemies; they hate each other’s guts. Izzy would  gladly pay Ryan a million bucks to move to another continent, or if that failed, to hire a ninja to take him out. Take him out where, Izzy isn’t sure, but it doesn’t matter as long as she would never have to see his annoying face again. But since it’s hard for a thirteen-year-old to get ahold of that kind of cash, Izzy is stuck with Ryan living next door – possibly forever. She thought that their days of throwing dirty looks and surprise water balloons over the fence that separated their yards would go on forever. But she was wrong; everything changed the summer of 7th Grade.

Number Six: I Hate Chocolate & Peanut Butter

I’m just going to come right out and say this one – I don’t like chocolate. Nor do I like peanut butter.

I think I’ve included a sufficient amount of GIFs in order to accurately capture your shock and horror.

Reese’s are like little sticks of death. Don’t bring them within a twenty foot radius of me.

Number Seven: I’m A Christian

Okay, all joking aside, this last one is actually kind of serious. The single most important thing in my life – the thing that plays the biggest, hugest role in my identity –  is my belief in Christ. I am an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. With Christmas just around the corner, I am excited to refocus my life on my Savior.

I Tag

Okay, wow. The rules say I should tag FIFTEEN PEOPLE???? FIFTEEN? I don’t think I even know fifteen people irl, much less on the internet. Instead of going through all that hassle, I’m just going to say:  Tag, you’re it!

What were you scared of as a kid?

Do you like to write? What was your very first story about?

Are there any foods that you hate?

What did you think of my answers? Let me know in the comments!

You’re so funny, and I love the Disney references ;)
I was scared of pretty much everything.
    I still like to write.
I hate cheesecake, yogurt, coconut, brussels sprouts, peanut butter, margarine… OK lots of things.

You are so nice! ANd THANKS FOR CATCHING MY REFERENCESSSS. I should put on my resume that I’m fluent in Disney or something haha. Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself :) AND YAS ANOTHER PERSON WHO HATES PB. We have bonded.

Ha ha! Fluent in Disney… if only that was a recognised language. I can also understand Cat.
I used to eat peanut butter for the energy it provides, but only when I was pregnant. Otherwise I don’t touch the stuff.

Wonderful post, Kat! And AH! But peanut butter is amazing!! I like to put it on waffles, not gonna lie! 😂 And I’m a Christian too (Catholic, to be specific). I think that’s awesome how your faith is super important to you, love! ❤️

KELLLYYYY. HOW ARE YOU ALWAYS SO WONDERFUL??? Haha my brother puts peanut butter on his pancakes/waffles too :) Also, one of my best friends irl is Catholic so yay for Jesus! Thanks for always commenting!!! I need to be better at doing that…haha

Well done on getting the award 💛
I love that your mum used to read stories about fairies to you– so sweet. And I think yellow is a good colour– my lounge is actually yellow. It a cheerful colour so all is good. I am not a big fan of peanut butter but anything with chocolate I will probably devour 😂
I was afraid of spiders as kid (very generic) and I am still very afraid of them 😂
    Lovely post 💛

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 18, 2018 at 7:23 am - Reply

Thank you so much, I appreciate it :) Honestly, I still am surprised people are reading the stuff I write on here, haha. And I’m not scared of spiders personally, but I think that is mostly a side effect of my mother being almost arachnophobic – I was always the one chosen to go slay the beast.

      • meandinkblog December 19, 2018 at 12:17 am - Reply

You’re welcome 😊 Aw… I really like your blog– always nice to read.
Oh right you were the chosen one. Yeah my dad always took the spiders out whilst I ran into the other room haha 😂

        • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 22, 2018 at 2:04 pm - Reply

Dawwww thank youuuuuuuuuuu <3 <3 and yay for fathers! They help us rid the house of spiders, open the most tricky of jars, and help us with our taxes.

          • meandinkblog December 24, 2018 at 1:03 am

You’re very welcome 💛 Yay indeed– always a helping hand 😂 I hope you have a nice Christmas!!

There are more gasping GIFS than I ever would have realized! Reese’s were my favorite childhood candy, but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Kat, you are so deserving of all the blogging awards ❤️

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 18, 2018 at 7:23 am - Reply

Haha, GIFs are great, aren’t they? AND DAWWWWW, IVY YOU ARE MAKING ME TEAR UP. THANK YOU for all of your support! You are amazing :)

YAAAAY congratulations on the award, though you deserve it and all of the awards and praise and love in the world, honestly. <3
I really liked reading your post and your facts, but I get that, I always have the hardest time coming up with facts about myself haha. I didn't know you wrote, that's so great! Have you been writing lately, or not at all? I'm curious now, sorry, haha :)

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 18, 2018 at 7:25 am - Reply

Thank you so much, Marie! And well…. I say that I “write,” but mostly I end up planning one story idea and then getting distracting and planning another new, shiny story idea…..and never actually writing anything at all. It’s a problem. haha

      • Marie December 19, 2018 at 3:39 am - Reply

Well you have the ideas, it’s a good start!! :D

  6. Norrie December 18, 2018 at 5:26 am - Reply

No peanut butter?? * gasp * … it’s my favourite food! Haha.
Chocolate, i can understand. I don’ t like it too much either. :D

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 18, 2018 at 7:26 am - Reply

My husband feels the same way. Peanut butter is his favorite thing ever. But then he realized it meant more for him, and he decided it was actually a good thing that I don’t like it haha.

DAW YOU’RE THE BEST, MAYYYY! I’m so glad to have a book buddy like you :) I’m glad you thought this post was funny, cause it like….took way longer than you would think to write just seven measly things about myself. I’m super not interesting, so yeah. I tried. AND PLEASE STILL LOVE ME EVEN THOUGH I DOnT LOVE CHOCOLATE AND PB 😂😂😂

I am freaking cracking up, I loved reading this post so much and I adore your voice & character that you breathe into your posts! Even though you hate Reese’s (yum) and like yellow (ugh) I still adore you.

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 22, 2018 at 2:08 pm - Reply

I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT. I try to make every post interesting and not just, “here is a list of the different books I want to read with absolutely no commentary and just a cover I snagged off Goodreads.” No shade on those sorts of posts, but I want to write stuff I’m proud of. Does that make sense?

  9. Sophie @ Blame Chocolate December 20, 2018 at 5:39 am - Reply

Ok, I’m going to forgive you for hating chocolate – JUST because everything else you wrote was epic and I love you even more now for it!

I also love that you included screen captures of Aladdin and The Lion King <3 I used to play them so much as a kid, they were my favourites ^^

Your mom sounds like the cutest mom ever! And it's awesome that you liked writing and your first story was about lovers to haters (only my fave trope ever *_*)

Thanks so much for sharing, Kat <3 And of course, congrats on the award!

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 22, 2018 at 2:12 pm - Reply

I’M SO GLAD YOU STILL LOVE ME. THIS WAS A LEGITIMATE FEAR.

Also, ayyyyyyyyyeeeee somebody else played the Super Nintendo Disney video games. Honestly, the Aladdin Cave of Wonders level was THE MOST DIFFICULT THING for my seven-year-old self to beat. I still hold a grudge.

My mom IS pretty great and yeahhhhh boiiii I love haters to lovers toooooo. (Apparently so did my middle-school self haha).

Thanks for reading my posts and for the amazing comments, Sophie! I’ve really liked talking with you the last little bit. We should be friends. Just sayin’.

      • Sophie @ Blame Chocolate December 26, 2018 at 2:39 am - Reply

HAHAHAHAHA why yes, of course I do!

I don’t remember it as well as I’d liked but I know it was hard as heck! It definitely prepared me for real life’s challenges, that’s for sure xD

Same here! Which makes me wonder whether having the same tastes as my younger self is problematic or not… Hm.

Aaawww of course! <3 And we are friends, girl ;) Even if we're on opposite sides of the world and have never met, I love chatting with you and reading your lovely posts as well – that classifies as a friend in my book!

        • Kat @ Novels & Waffles January 3, 2019 at 3:10 pm - Reply

I LOVE CHATTING WITH YOU TOOOOOOO. Here’s wishing you a wonderful new year with lots of time to read ALL THE BOOKS! I can’t wait to see more blog content from you in 2019 :) :)

“Man, I wish I felt that good when I woke up in the morning. Usually I just feel like somebody ran a flat roller over my tongue during the night.” Wow. That’s a mood, Kat. That is one big mood.

And same, I hate peanut butter. I’ll eat it sometimes but I’m not like some who can eat it day and night and um… in virtually every meal they eat. HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 22, 2018 at 2:15 pm - Reply

I KNOW RIIIITTEE??? I totally agree about the PB thing. My husband is like you said – he could eat PB all the time and never get sick of it and I’m just over here like, “get that jar of death away from me.” Anyways, thanks for the wonderful comment!

I love this postt! :D And since you’re tagging everyone who reads this, I guess I can do this post right? May I, may I please? It loooks fun! I also have a food dislike that shocked everyone which is..NUTELLA. Yes, I do not like Nutella and I dont understand how they can eat that with everything hahaha.
I love to write too and my first story is a…fanfic xD WELL I HAD TO START SOMEWHERE hahaha
And till this day I will forever be afraid of baby dolls, I will avoid that part of the toy store and please I OH SO WISH that if I have kids one day, they do not have an interest to be a mummy and ask me to buy those baby dolls

    • Kat @ Novels & Waffles December 22, 2018 at 2:17 pm - Reply

THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHHH. I appreciate that you would say that. AND YES, PLEASE CONSIDER YOURSELF OFFICIALLY TAGGED.

It’s cool that your first story was a fanfic. Did you know that Marissa Meyers (author of the Lunar Chronicles series) started out by writing Sailor Moon fanfics? Any writing is great, I think!

Congrats on the awards, Kat! You very much deserved them. ♡ I think it’s so sweet that your mom would tell you fairy stories at night & I would so love to read about Izzy & Ryan! Get that rough draft out of the ocean, please!
