Have you read either of these books? What did you think of them?
Do you like to read retellings that aren’t based off of fairy tales?
What about books with pirates, do you like them?
Loved these mini reviews, beautiful! I really love DOTPK, but am a tad annoyed by the fiery red-head trope too. Hahaha.
It was such a fun read, but as a redhead myself, I find myself wondering why all redheads have to be hot-headed and short-tempered. It’s almost as bad as Manic Pixie Dream Girl. But I liked DOTPK, so I’m willing to overlook it haha :)
Great mini reviews, Kat! I’m honestly in love with these graphics (and all of your graphics on this blog! you’re so talented) 😍 I love the enemies-to-lovers trope, haha, and I’m glad you enjoyed both books overall! They’re both on my TBR :)
Dezzy! Thanks so much for the kind words – they mean so much! And both are fun books, I hope you enjoy them when you get around to reading them :)
I absolutely love this post and all of your graphics, Kat, they’re so gorgeous, seriously 😍 😍 I really want to read Pride because it sounds like a really great read – I’m sorry that you didn’t feel the chemistry there, that’s too bad! :(
MARIE! Thank you so much! I think you would really enjoy Pride, and who knows, maybe the romance will work better for you than it did for me :)
I love those graphics so much! Amazing :D That’s interesting with Pride; I have seen some people recently have the same problems with it. I think I’ll get it from my library. Great review!
Thanks so much! And Pride is a fun read – unique but still definitely a retelling. I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you, me too :)
AHHH I LOVE THIS POST!!???? I’m v nervous about Pride now, when the giant kissing scenes fail,,,,,,,, why stay for anything else imao skdfjlsjfldsk
AHHHH MALANIEEEE!!!! Thank you so much! Pride was still a fun read, but tbh I’m way too attached to the 2005 movie with Kierah Knightly in it, so maybe I’m spoiled to any other version of Pride and Prejudice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I hope you end up liking it!
oh god the Knightly version of Elizabeth is my wife, SHE EMBODIES ALL THAT IS LIZZY. but i think my favorite is still my sunshine Jennifer Ehle <3 <3
Jennifer Ehle is so good, and if the movie was just all about her I WOULD BE 100000% okay with that. BUT. (unpopular opinion alert) I don’t really love Collin Firth as Darcy. There, I said it.
Colin Firth is so precious but his face is perhappppsss too inherently sunshiney to capture the Perfect Brooding Angst
Every time I see him, all I can see is Lord Dashwood from that Amanda Bynes movie, “What a Girl Wants.” Have you seen that movie???? It’s like the epitome of 2000s Rom Coms.
I haven’t seen that movie but now I must watch it immediately, I’m so ashmed of myself, how can I call myself a 2000s rom com lover???? AMANDA BYNES!!!!
I LOVE AMANDA BYNES. SHE’S THE MAN WILL FOREVER BE MY FAVORITE MOVIE.
YOU’RE LIKE A GRAPHIC BLOGGING QUEEN I live for THESE mini reviews omg so fricken cute
love the pros and cons and so glad to hear you enjoyed daughter of the pirate king, but now im worried for pride lol great reviewssss <3
MAYMAYMAY YOU NEVER FAIL TO MAKE ME SMILE. You are the best reading buddy :) And yeah, Pride was fun but not my fav. I’ll be interested to see what you think about it, if you read it :) HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY, YOU WONDERFUL HUMAN YOU.
haha you bring up a good point about the Red Head Trope. As a red-head myself, I get a little tired of the “short-tempered” firey approach. But I really enjoyed DOTPK. I listened to the audiobook and it was a lot of fun!
I’m glad a fellow red-head agrees with me here. And I bet the audiobook would have been really fun to listen to! Maybe I’ll listen to the audiobook for Daughter of the Siren Queen.
OMG can I just say I love your graphics on here? They’re aesthetically pleasing and I can look at them all day. 😍😍😍
Anyways, sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy Pride as much! Seeing as I haven’t read Pride and Prejudice but I have the tendency to enjoy retellings of classics, I definitely have it on my list (but not on my priority TBR). I’ve heard A LOT of good things about Daughter of the Pirate King, though, but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet.
AHHHH SOPHIA! Thank you so much for your kind words! They mean a lot to me, especially because I’m a perfectionist and my blog has to be just-so. It’s a problem haha. Retellings of classics are fun, aren’t they? I read My Plain Jane recently which is a reimagining of Jane Eyre and that was such a n enjoyable read as well. Anyways, I hope that you like these books if you get around to reading them :)
Ugh Kat, I know I said it all the time but I LOOOVEE your graphics <3 I haven't read any of these books, but I do have Pride on my tbr :D
Thanks so much, Tasya! YOU ARE THE SWEETEST!! If you ever get around to reading Pride, you’ll have to let me know what you thought of it :)
I’m in love with your graphics ah! Alosa was a wonderful MC although I do agree she falls short of unstoppable.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, CINDY! That means so much to me. And I agree – I Alosa was a fun character to read. I especially love the fact that she was so picky about fashion and hygiene. Again, thanks for the comment!

Great reviews! I have both books on my tbr. But I’ve been losing my interest in starting Pride for a while now. Because most reviewers like you didn’t see any chemistry between the main characters. And for me, the biggest draw of Pride & Prejudice was the spark between Darcy and Elizabeth. But I’m also intrigued about the social and cultural themes in Pride with a protagonist of color. So I might end up picking it up eventually!
I totally agree about what you said about Pride & Prejudice. Like, if my heart ain’t bursting out of my chest when Darcy asks Elizabeth to marry him, then is it even Pride & Prejudice? But the themes explored in Pride were really interesting, so it was still a worth-while read I think. If you end up reading it, I would love to hear what you think of it :)
Yeah, I think I’ll end up reading just to see how well these themes are explored. Thanks!
This is such a cool way to do mini book reviews
[…] Daughter of the Pirate King // Tricia Levenseller // ★★★★☆ – SO here we’ve got a female pirate who loves fashion and embraces the fact that being a women doesn’t make her weak, but strong. What isn’t there to like about that? PLUS THERE’S PIRATES. I WILL NEVER NOT READ A BOOK ABOUT PIRATES. YO HO, YO HO, A PIRATE’S LIFE FOR ME. […]
