• Daniel & June = LOVE!
• Getting inside Eden’s head
• The role reversal! It was refreshing for Eden to have to protect Daniel for once

I Disliked…
• It would’ve been better as a novella (I said what I said)
• The ending was perfect…TOO perfect. It diminished the impact of Champion

MY OVERALL RATING: MEH

The TL;DR

Rebel by Marie Lu is basically a tea doily; it’s nice enough, but completely unnecessary. Not only did it fail to add much of anything to the Legend series, but the way it closes on a picture perfect fairy tale ruins Champion‘s bittersweet, open ending. It largely feels like Rebel was a fun, nostalgic writing exercise for the author and was published as an afterthought to please diehard fans. As much as I hate to say it, Eden, Daniel, and June’s story would’ve been just fine left how it was.

i haven’t read this one, but i see a lot of people actually dislike this book. now i’m scared to read it because i’m afraid it will ruins my fondness of the trilogy 😢

  2. I haven’t read this series yet. But, I’m thinking the others in the series may be better than this one? Guess I’ll have to see!

i completely agree, kat!! it really was a useless book and i think you’re right about how it should have been a novella. (or it should have been its own spinoff series with more than one book? idk). and aahh yeah the ending did minimize the impact of champion! but i think i just really love the juneday content so i can forgive that haha 💕

I agree with your review 100%! It was an interesting story but there was no real reason for it? And I adored the tragic yet hopeful ending of Champion so I was disappointed in how that was carried into Rebel.

I love your graphics – I’m so impressed by how you’ve made it up!
I haven’t read Rebel, but I really enjoyed Champion. I might just stick with Champion alone! Thanks for the review <3

I love the little graphics! I haven’t read Rebel yet, but it doesn’t sound like my cup of tea, so might not. Anyway, I have too many books on my TBR, so I might as well finish those first.

Haha, I completely understand what you mean about having too many books on your TBR. #BookwormProblems But thank you, I’m glad you like the little sticky note graphics! This is basically what my notes in real life look like when I read books, so it’s been fun making a digital recreation of them for these mini-review posts :)
