Tweet Cute by Emma Lord. That’s it. That’s the post.
Okay, not really. I’ve got soooooooooooooo (is that enough O’s for ya?) much more to say about this utterly delightful, sweet-as-a-slice-of-cake debut novel. But it all starts with this tiny little fact: I’m about as stressed as a snowman in the Sahara right now. And when I’m stressed out, there’re only two things in all the known universes (and probably all the unknown ones as well…unless unicorns exist somewhere out there in the vast beyond, because that would definitely decrease my stress levels) that can chill me out:
- Delicious baked goods
- An absurdly cute contemporary romance
And Tweet Cute just so happens to fulfill both of those requirements in sugar and spades. It was exactly the book I needed, when I needed it, and here are all the reasons that you need it too.
You Need to Read ‘Tweet Cute’
The Cheese-Crossed Romance
We’ve all heard of star-crossed lovers, but what about cheese-crossed ones? Enter Pepper and Jack (yes, those are their actual names. The food pun-ery is strong with this one), whose families both run restaurants that are locked in a life-or-death battle over none other than…grilled cheese. I don’t know about you, but if I was going to grab my pitchfork and go to war over something, I couldn’t think of a more noble cause than the elegant perfection that is grilled cheese.
Both restaurants’ social media accounts claim that their gooey, cheesy, sandwichy concoction is far superior. As a result, fierce textual punches are thrown across the blood-soaked cyber battlefield that is Twitter and the subtweeting massacre isn’t pretty.
Naturally, since there’s every reason for Pepper and Jack not to be attracted to each other, they obviously are. If this electric haters-to-lovers romance doesn’t melt your heart like a slice of cheese on a hot griddle, then I don’t know what will. And this is coming from somebody who has a heart of unfeeling stone when it comes to fictional romances.
It’s Fluffy and Fun
Speaking of fictional romances, under normal circumstances, I can be a pretty harsh critic of them. But when I start to get crushed by the infamous Anxiety Avalanche, suddenly I start inhaling fluffy Rom-Coms like they’re fresh air and I’m drowning. There’s just something about how lighthearted and soft and completely innocent they are that calms me down. And if Tweet Cute is anything, it’s definitely lighthearted and soft and completely innocent.
The Witty Banter and Excellent Puns
Are all modern-day teenagers as endearingly sarcastic as Pepper and Jack? Because if so, please AirDrop me some of your witty bantering skills. I can barely rub my two remaining brain cells together and come up with a coherent reply to my husband’s daily question of what we should eat for dinner. The way that Pepper and Jack always seem to have the most charmingly funny comebacks to any situation – even what to eat for dinner – boggles those two lonely brain cells of mine that I mentioned earlier.
All The Emotions
Ewwwww, emotions are disgusting…Give me more of them. Although Tweet Cute is well seasoned with snark and sarcasm, it’s also peppered (HAHA get it? ’cause like…the main character’s name is Pepper? Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled programming) with deeper, more serious moments too. Moments where Emma Lord’s writing so distinctly describes Pepper and Jack’s feelings that you can’t help but feel a pang of empathy well up in your chest. As the great reindeer philosopher Sven once said, “You feel what you feel and those feelings are real” and Tweet Cute does an excellent job of capturing the feelings of its characters in a very real way.
The Mouth-Watering Food Descriptions
I’m a simple girl with simple needs. If you tell me that a book is stuffed-turkey-full of paragraphs describing baked concoctions with devilishly delicious-sounding names like Monster Cake, Kitchen Sink Macaroons, and Where Are They Now? Waffles, then you can bet your butter that I AM GOING TO READ THAT BOOK. Emma Lord’s Tweet Cute is a love letter to Foodies everywhere and since my chosen Patronus is Merry and Pippin from The Lord of the Rings, I couldn’t help but utterly devour this book. I mean, the plot features an app for finding emergency mac and cheese, for waffle’s sake! If that doesn’t make you want to read this book, then I honestly don’t know what will.
The TL;DR
Tweet Cute by Emma Lord is a delightfully sweet and utterly cheesy (both figuratively and literally) romance that will fill you up like a home-cooked meal. And I absolutely need you to read it.

Added it into my to-read shelf on goodreads!
I’m so happy you loved Tweet Cute, Kat!! We had the exact same thoughts about it 😍 Tweet Cute is basically happiness in 300 pages. the only thing sad about the book is the fact that I can’t try any of the baked goods mentioned in it…
I have this one waiting for me on my Kindle from my library and I’m super excited! I’ve heard nothing but good things so far and I am always here for a book with great food descriptions!
Okay, well this post was SO much fun to read!! I’m super happy you enjoyed it, and I loved reading all your thoughts on it~ I hope to read Tweet Cute soon.💛
I love all kinds of cheese, including grilled cheese. :D I adored this novel, like you said, it was so sweet and entertaining – the budding relationship of Jack and Pepper made me beam so much. :) With that said, I was a little bit, I don’t know, stressed while reading this!? I know, I know, this is so light and fluffy, but the academic pressure was A LOT, and the pressure Pepper’s mom put on her made me so frustrated. Also, I have to admit, the ending was not my favorite, there was just so much (old) drama with the parents, haha. Nonetheless, this was a solid four star read for me. :D Great review!
