Imma be real with you for a moment—these last two years have been a STRUGGLE™.
I’m sure you can relate.
Like you, I’ve been overwhelmed, scared, anxious, depressed, and sleep-deprived.
(Shout out to my dearest one-year-old who refuses to sleep through the night. JUST SLEEP, DANG IT!)
Thanks to COVID-19, we’ve all felt these dark feelings at one time or another. And we’ve all dealt with the crushing stress in our own way.
The Backstory
For me, I escaped reality by diving into my book blog. Every time I felt anxious, stressed, or scared, I would open up my blog.
I spent months redesigning my website, rewording my blog copy, and putting together new posts (which I never posted because they weren’t “good enough,” whatever that means).
I did this obsessively.
Working on my blog was the only time I could zone out; it was the only time I could get my brain to stop thinking about how deeply anxious I was about life.
Soon, what started out as a fun hobby morphed into a toxic space.
Now, every time I think about Novels & Waffles, I associate it with my stress, anxiety, and depression.
I hate to say this, but Novels & Waffles doesn’t make me happy anymore.
It just reminds me of my darkest mental health days and triggers old memories that I don’t want to revisit.
It’s not healthy for me.
So after a lot of debate, I’ve finally decided that it’s time to say goodbye to Novels & Waffles.
What’s Next?
But don’t freak out!
Although I won’t be posting on Novels & Waffles anymore, it’s not goodbye forever. I love reading, book blogging, and the bookish community too much for that.
I can’t imagine leaving it behind.
So what’s the good news?
(Drumroll, please!)
I’m starting a new book blog called The Bibliosmile!
This is my new beginning. My fresh start. A clean, blank page for me to rewrite my story and reclaim my mental health.
What Can You Expect from The Bibliosmile?
But why The Bibliosmile you ask?
Well, let me tell you:
My favorite part about Novels & Waffles has always been my guest posting series called, “The Bibliosmile Project.” My aim for this project was to spotlight how books (and the bookish community) have brought smiles, happiness, and positivity into our lives.
I LOVED hearing the many uplifting stories and positive messages that members of the book blogging community shared on my blog. They filled me up when I was empty.
And that’s exactly what I want to focus on with my new book blog.
My goal for The Bibliosmile is to help overwhelmed bookworms escape the daily stress of adulting and find joy in reading YA books.
In short, I want to simplify my blogging life. I want to create for joy.
But most of all, I want to make The Bibliosmile a happy online space where I can once again relax and feel safe.
And I’ll do that by connecting readers with YA books that will make them smile.
How Can You Support The Bibliosmile?
Now that I’ve reached the end of my Novels & Waffles journey, all I can say (scream) is: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of my subscribers, supporters, design clients, and friends.
Thank you to every single person who has ever commented on one of my posts, visited my blog, or read any of my crazy wafflings.
You are the best community I could ask for, and I hope you will continue to support my new blog, The Bibliosmile.
So although this is goodbye, it’s also hello.
Come say hello to me on my new book blog or send me a message on my rebranded social media channels:
(I’ve got a lot of really exciting stuff planned, so please give me a follow if you’re interested!)
Thanks a waffle lot,
Kat
Hey Kat! Long time no see! I’m glad you’re finding ways to stay blogging and doing what you love. I’ve always loved your blog no matter what but you gotta do what makes you happy 😁 I hope to still jump on here and see your stuff too! (Also if I can make a suggestion with your child not sleeping through the night, I can’t recommend Taking Cara Babies enough! She has a class for every stage until they’re 2. I took her newborn class and it saved my sanity.)
