You excitedly enter The Enchanted Wardrobe™, a magical store where all the fictional clothing and accessories you’ve ever read about in books exist and are available for purchase.

Over on a sales rack you greedily spot Scarlett’s fated dress from Caraval, and a mannequin at the front of the store is sporting one of Amana’s heavenly dresses from Spin the Dawn. In a glass display case, the White Rabbit’s pocket watch from Alice in Wonderland has been expertly paired with Dorothy’s Silver Shoes from The Wizard of Oz. The One Ring, Katniss’s Mockingjay Pin, The Sorting Hat, Queen Levana’s Veil, Camp Half Blood T-Shirts – they’re all here! Everywhere you look, you see some new clothing item from a book you once read.

So…what happens next (besides your wallet softly beginning to cry tears of pain)? UH, DUH. A SHOPPING MONTAGE!!!

“Regardless of whether a film is a Hollywood or Bollywood production, a shopping montage must always result in the perfect outfit.”
~My So-Called Bollywood Life by Nisha Sharma

But seriously, if such a store really did exist, the following outfit would be my dream clothing haul:

My Dream Clothing Haul

Custom Candy Wrapper Dress

kimi original candy wrapper dress from I Love You So Mochi

i love you so mochi cover
“..When I presented by best friend Bex with her custom candy wrapper dress – a rainbow delight that I’d fashioned in a simple skater cut with tiny ruffle flourishes at the sleeves and the bottom of the skirt – one of her eyebrows twitched upward and the smallest of crinkles creased her brow.”

~I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn

Winged Shoes

winged shoes from The Lightning Thief
the lightning thief book cover
“‘Just wanted to say good luck, ‘ Luke told me. ‘And I thought…um, maybe you could use these.’

He handed me the sneakers, which looked pretty normal. They even smelled kind of normal.

Luke said, ‘Maia!’

White bird’s wings sprouted out of the heels, startling me so much, I dropped them. The shoes flapped around on the ground until the wings folded up and disappeared.”

~The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Lucky’s Pink Wig

lucky's pink wig from Somewhere Only We Know
somewhere only we know book cover

“As I went through the familiar steps of the choreography for ‘Heartbeat,’ I managed to ignore the pain shooting up from the balls of my feet, the perpetual wedgie from my bootie shorts, and the long strands of my pink wig sticking to the sweaty side of my face.”

~Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo

Lara Jean’s Hair Tie

lara jean's hairtie from To All The Boys I've Loved Before
to all the boys i've loved before book cover

“Peter grins and shrugs. He’s got his hand on the doorknob, but then he stops. ‘Hold on,’ he says, and he pulls the hair tie out of my hair and tosses it into the yard.

‘Hey!’

‘It looks better down. Just trust me.’ Peter runs his fingers through my hair and fluffs it up, and I swat his hand away. “

~To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

A “Kiss” From Peter

a kiss from peter from peter pan
peter pan and wendy book cover

“‘Now,’ said he, ‘shall I give you a kiss?’ and she replied with a slight primness, ‘if you please.’ She made herself rather cheap by inclining her face toward him, but he merely dropped an acorn button into her hand, so she slowly returned her face to where it had been before, and said nicely that she would wear his kiss on the chair round her neck.”

~Peter Pan and Wendy by J.M. Barrie

Rory’s Yellow Backpack

Rory's Yellow Backpack from Gilmore Girls

Okay, you caught me. This one isn’t technically from a book, but it’s still a non-negotiable wardrobe essential for any respectable bookworm all the same. I mean, just look at how many books this backpack can fit! Obviously, it’s full of magic (or cleverly placed camera cutaways).

The Complete Look

Not to toot my own horn, but I drew this. Aw, what the heck: I’m pretty proud of myself. TOOT TOOT!

This is sooo cool and adorable 😍 I love your illustrations and the quotes you shared from the books for each item of clothing! If this place was real, there’s no way you’d get me to leave the store 😂

This is, quite possibly, the cutest post I’ve ever seen – I love books, I love cloths, so this is a WIN. Your illustrations, as per usual, are gorgeous, and the quotes you included were cool as hell. Also, this reminded me of having to read I Love You So Mochi.

Ahhh I need myself a fictional wardrobe! I think most of my outfits would just be copy-cats of Lara Jean’s because she’s so stylish! XD

This is amazing, I am constantly in awe of your graphics skills!
I would have to say I would most likely end up either in a high fae novel with wide sweeping gowns, or that one background girl of a contemporary novel with her converse and jeans. Whoops!

These drawings are so cute! I’d love some of the beautiful dresses from The Cruel Prince, particularly the one Jude wears to the coronation!

This is the CUTEST and most creative post I have ever seen! Kat, I don’t know how you do it! I love this so very much! My dream dress would be Scarlett’s from Caraval, and I would have to pair it with LJ’s favorite scrunchie. I would also need to have Hermione’s purse with the extension charm, because I love dainty little purses, but I always need a backpack to carry everything. Plus, I could fit an endless supply of books in there! <3

Those are such cute designs! I’d LOVE to find winged shoes in the shop!! I already have The One Ring (black and a gold one 😄) and the Time-Turner; but I am into getting any hat made exclusively by The Mad Hatter.
